LED tubes versus Fluorescent tubes: A comparative study of lighting technologies

New LED technology is beginning to emerge strongly into the market. Until recently, LED technology is being used for ornamental lighting or to iluminate a focal point, never to iluminate large areas (either commercial or industrial). But only recently LED tubes have entered the lighting market. Its structure is simple. It is a number of LED lighting points installed in to the tube. Fabricated in resistant PVC, tubes of LED SMD of last generation provide up to 40% more light than tubes of first generation and produces light much more involved and similar to standard fluorescent. Moreover, life is up to five times longer than the classic fluorescent, generate no heat, no flicker and emit no pollutants or ultraviolet radiation waste, so do not harm the environment. This is an advanced and efficient lighting concept that conforms to international environmental regulation and is a suitable alternative to the recent directive adopted by the European Commission. It provides recall of high consumption appliances, as traditional light bulbs and lamps. They have also been modified, PVC instead of glass, so they are much lighter and the risk of breakage during installation is avoided. And as to their power, SMD LED tubes emit between 6000-8000K, resulting in a white light which simulates daylight. To be convinced of the product we must compare the energy, light and economic consequences of these new products with the classic fluorescent tubes. First we need to consider energy characteristics for a tube of 120 cm: – The classic fluorescent has a power of 36 W, corresponding to a startups power consumption of 75w. Led tubes consumption is 15W, regardless to made startups. This represents a 58.3% minimum savings that can be reached up to 80%, depending on the use. By giving a price of 0.19 Euros per kW-h, gives us savings every hour of operation to 0.11 Euros 0.15 per kW installed fluorescent lighting. Let us now compare the luminous characteristics: -Fluorescent tubes flicker in the process of ignition, emitting UV radiation. – LED tubes, do not exhibit flicker or emit UV radiation. Now let’s compare the economic costs: -Conventional Tube: Over 5 Euros. – LED Tube: Depending on the manufacturer, currently over 100 €, with a downward trend. USE OF A TUBE of 120 cm DURING 50,000 hours CONVENTIONAL TUBE – Average life 10 000 h. – Amount of luminaries: 5 x 5 = 25 € – Amount of electric bill – 50000 x 0.036 x 0.19 = 342 € Minimum amount -50000 x 0.0555 x 0.19 = € 527.25 Average amount. – 50000 x 0.075 x 0.19 = € 712.5 Maximum – Overall lighting: Between € 367 and € 737.5 minimum LED TUBE – Average life of 50.000 h – Amount of lights: 100 € – Amount electricity bill: – 50000 x 0.015 x 0.19 = € 142.5 – Overall lighting: 142.5 + 100 = € 242.5 Savings between 124.5 € and 495 € TIME TO REPLACE FLUORESCENT TUBE FOR LED TUBES In recent years, LED lighting has gone from being a story, niche articles, to a product that is beginning to be phased on the shelves of department stores, medium and general stores. From here you are encouraged to adopt more energy efficiency measures such as the use of LED lighting, but certainly should be studied the case and use to make the most of it. TYPICAL APPLICATIONS – Lighting for homes, offices, restaurants, hotels, malls, buses, trains, warehouses, parking and more. – Working lights for cabinets, display cases, etc. At home, restaurants and kitchens, or anywhere else where punctual lighting is required. – Lighting exhibitors. -Lighting for signage and awnings.
